The ramé-hart DROPimage series software was written and developed by Dr. Finn Knut Hansen, a Scientist and Professor of Chemistry at the University of Oslo, and is available exclusively from ramé-hart instrument co. Our lineup currently includes three editions as detailed in the matrix below.
DROPimage CA is our entry-level software solution. This program ships standard with our Model 190 CA Goniometer and can be later upgraded to DROPimage Standard or Advanced if your requirements become more demanding. The two primary tools in DROPimage CA are the Contact Angle Tool and the Calibration Command as outlined below. Additional menus are available for: options, saving and opening images, data export, video setup, zooming, and baseline setup. DROPimage CA uses the same algorithms, video control, and methodology employed in the more advanced versions of DROPimage, but lacks the surface energy and surface tension tools.
DROPimage Standard ships with the Standard Goniometer (Model 200) and the Contact Angle Goniometer with Wafer Support (Model 400). It is also available as an upgrade for users of DROPimage CA. DROPimage Standard is well suited for contact angle and surface energy studies. Below is a link to a playlist of videos that illustrates how easy it is to calibrate the instrument and take contact angle measurements using DROPimage Standard.
DROPimage Advanced measures contact angle, surface energy, surface and interfacial tension, advancing and receding contact angle, surface dilatational elasticity and viscosity and is particularly well-suited for time-dependent and dynamic studies.
The drop shape method is determined by a contour fitting algorithm, and the profile coordinates are used to calculate the surface tension, contact angle and the area and volume of the drops. Calculation of surface tension is done by means of a method based on a least squares fit to theoretical profiles produced by a numerical integration of the Young-Laplace equation. The methods have been published in J.Colloid Interface Sci.
DROPimage Advanced ships with the ramé-hart Advanced Goniometer / Tensiometer (Model 500) as well as Model 250, Model 290, Model 295, and Model 590 and is offered as an upgrade for users of DROPimage Standard and those with the now-retired RHI software. Previous versions of this software, which was originally called DROPimage, can also be upgraded to DROPimage Advanced. Contact us for pricing.
DROPimage Advanced includes all of the tools and features that are included in in DROPimage Standard but features additional commands and tools. The following are features that are unique to DROPimage Advanced and are not part of DROPimage Standard:*:
- The Automatic Measurement of Surface / Interfacial Tension from Sessile drops and bubbles,
- Automatic time controlled experiments,
- Support for the Automated Tilting Base option,
- Static and Dynamic Surface Tension measurements,
- Relaxation*,
- Oscillation with Surface Elasticity Calculations with support for the Oscillator option*,
- Image Save and Recalculation Features,
- Constant Volume or Area*.
